Celebrating Neurodiversity Week at Vistatec

Square

Vistatec joined the global celebration of Neurodiversity Week. Through a diverse schedule of activities, we embraced the richness of the different minds and ways of thinking that make up our globally remote workplace.

What Is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is the concept that people experience and interact with the world around them in diverse ways. There is no one “right” way to think, learn, or process information. Neuro-differences are not deficits; they are natural variations of the human brain. Embracing neurodiversity means recognizing the value in these variations and working to create environments where all ways of thinking are supported.

Research suggests that neurodiverse individuals represent a significant portion of the population, with figures ranging from 15% to 20%, with neurodiverse professionals making up an estimated 17% of the workforce. Creating a neuro-inclusive workplace is essential to making these individuals feel represented, but it is also a smart business move. Teams that embrace cognitive diversity are more innovative, collaborative, and resilient.

To celebrate the week, Vistatec programmed a whole host of different events and activities.

Moving with Mindfulness: NeuroYoga with Fernanda

We explored neurodiversity through movement with a special NeuroYoga Masterclass, led by Vistatec employee and qualified yoga instructor Fernanda, who is certified in Functional Neurology Yoga. This session blended movement, mindfulness, and neurological awareness to demonstrate how every nervous system is wired slightly differently, which is something to celebrate.

Employees were introduced to:

  • Vestibular and reflex-based movements tailored to individual needs
  • Somatic techniques that support nervous system regulation
  • A safe, inclusive space to explore how bodies and brains move in their own ways

NeuroYoga offered a grounded, body-first way to connect with the principles of neurodiversity, and it reminded us that inclusivity can start from within.

Everyday Mindfulness with a Neurodiverse Lens

Throughout the week, we kept the conversation going with dedicated Wellbeing Wednesday posts, a special edition of Zen Time meditation, and even the DeskOut WorkOut session, which had a neurodiversity focus.

These micro-moments of awareness helped tie the week together and remind us all that inclusivity is built through small, thoughtful actions and not just company-wide policies.

The Value of Neurodiversity in the Workplace Webinar

The week’s activities culminated in our “Value of Neurodiversity in the Workplace” webinar, delivered by experts from Lexxic. The informative and interactive session explored what neurodiversity really means and how it shows up in the workplace.

The webinar looked closely at a range of conditions, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and more. Employees learned about the challenges faced but also the strengths that neurodivergent colleagues can bring to the table. For example, individuals with autism can excel in pattern recognition and attention to detail, while those with ADHD often bring creativity and fast-paced problem-solving. Dyslexic thinkers can demonstrate strong spatial reasoning and big-picture thinking. According to Lexxic, embracing these neurological profiles can enhance innovation, improve team dynamics, and lead to more inclusive decision-making.

Employees gained a deeper understanding of:

  • The strengths that neurodivergent individuals bring to teams
  • How to foster psychological safety and inclusive communication
  • Practical ways to support neurodivergent colleagues
  • The role of leadership in driving neuro-inclusion

The session was interactive, and excellent feedback was received from employees during and after the workshop.

Spreading the Word Beyond Vistatec

We didn’t keep our efforts to ourselves. Vistatec’s participation in Neurodiversity Celebration Week was shared across our social media channels. Externally, this promotion of awareness and inclusivity is a fundamental part of our broader DEI commitment. Visibility is key to the long-term success of our initiatives, and we are proud to spread the word.

As Vistatec HR shared in their closing message, “[We] encourage each and every one of you to watch the training session and take advantage of this valuable learning opportunity. By watching the webinar, you will gain valuable insights into neurodiversity and learn how to create a more inclusive and supportive work environment for all team members.” That sentiment captures the heart of what this week was about: growth, empathy, and learning together.

Thank you to everyone who organized, participated, or took a moment to reflect. The openness and enthusiasm of all who took part made this celebration of neurodiversity a huge success. Special thanks to Fernanda for her inspiring sessions and the HR team for creating space for this important conversation.
